Using Co-creation and Instant Feedback for Teaching

This study argues that virtual learning environments for co-creation and mobile apps could represent valuable tools for effective UDL practice.

About
This session presents co-creation work and WhatsApp use to enhance learning. Dr. Furmonaviciene co-created an online textbook with an undergraduate student group of around two hundred students. The students completed their co-creation as group work during the revision sessions for the module. UDL underpins innovative teaching ways, where every student can actively learn. Co-creation of an online textbook and WhatsApp use increased student engagement and allowed students to provide unique inputs. This study argues that virtual learning environments for co-creation and mobile apps could represent valuable tools for effective UDL practice.

About
It is a learning process to develop and implement lessons through applications of UDL principles. As teachers become more fluent in the UDL applications to their teaching practices, refreshing and advancing current teaching ideas and strategies can be challenging. Our presentation highlights how classroom teachers can advance their current teaching practices that they are comfortable with through reviewing their UDL applications from different angles. Resources and strategies are discussed and shared during this presentation.

Creating Coherence and Addressing Data Barriers to Improve Outcomes for ALL Students

Creating Coherence and Addressing Data Barriers

Creating Coherence and Addressing Data Barriers to Improve Outcomes for ALL Students provides an overview of the concerted effort of the California legislature to create a coherent system of education and improve outcomes for students with disabilities through the System Improvement Leads (SIL) grant.

About
This session provides an overview of the concerted effort of the California legislature to create a coherent system of education and improve outcomes for students with disabilities through the System Improvement Leads (SIL) grant. A system approach to addressing data barriers and designing tools for educators using a lens grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) will support planning and goal setting to optimize access for students. Attendees will acquire useful resources and learn about the process that California used to engage stakeholders in a process of improvement to support students with disabilities useful for their own system improvement efforts.

Building a UDL Implementation Researcher & Practitioner Tool

This session shares the results of a review of the current literature and practice around UDL implementation fidelity measures, and engages participants in identifying critical factors in assaying UDL implementation at the building and district level.

About
As more schools and districts adopt the UDL framework, describing the relationship between universal design and student/teacher outcomes emerges as a persistent need for practitioners and researchers. This breakout session shares the results of a review of the current literature and practice around UDL implementation fidelity measures, and engages participants in identifying critical factors in assaying UDL implementation at the building and district level. The results of this session will help inform field testing of a potential UDL implementation fidelity tool.

How can we use tech in meaningful ways?

Leveraging Technology to Remove Barriers (Not Create Them)

See how teachers in Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation leverage technology to engage and remove barriers for learners and specific tools used to do so through teacher examples, student testimonials, and model lesson exemplars.

About
In a world of iPads, chromebooks, learning management systems, and a billion dollar educational technology industry, it is easy to get enticed to use technology tools that promise to improve learner outcomes, make learning easier, or profoundly engage the digital natives in our classrooms. While technology can power our learning, without the UDL framework as a guide, it is a tool without a purpose and a source of disengagement for learners. This session explains the importance of using UDL as a research-based method for applying classroom technologies, steps for successful technology incorporation, and examples of how teachers can use specific tools to enhance the learning environment to engage learners. See how teachers in Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation leverage technology to engage and remove barriers for learners and specific tools used to do so through teacher examples, student testimonials, and model lesson exemplars.

The UDL Toolkit in Real Time, Fred Cochran

The UDL Toolkit in Real Time

This interactive UDL session offers attendees multiple ways to explore resources based on their own learning preferences.

Average: 5 (1 vote)

About
The vision for the UDL Toolkit was inspired by design. There are many UDL inspired resources available to educators but no central location to house them. I developed the UDL Toolkit via LiveBinder so educators would have simple access to articles, online research, videos, podcasts, lesson templates, sample lessons, assessment rubrics, and much more. This interactive UDL session will offer attendees multiple ways to explore resources based on their own learning preferences.
