About

The Open Acces project is based on the foundation that access to quality curriculum and instruction and participation and active engagement with learning can be achieved by:

  • implementing the principles of Universal Design for Learning across all learning environments
  • incorporating digital tools and/or Assistive Technology into the design of instruction and measurement of learning
  • providing access to Augmentative and Alternative Communication strategies and supports and bulding communication competence for students with complex communication needs.

This project provides universal shared resources and tools across all three areas through the Open Access website. In addition, we are supporting capacity building projects across California. Statewide networking and professional learning resources and events, in partnership with CAST and the UDL-IRN are also being planned.

Collaborative Research to Inform, Influence & Implement UDL

This resource examines current practices in 1:1 technology programs, UDL, and accessibility technologies in K-12 education and examines the implications for the implementation of UDL practices in K-12 and teacher education.

About

Universal design for learning (UDL) is recognized as a best-practice framework in designing instruction for all students. Incorporating technology options in UDL enhances the flexibility of learning experiences. School districts are increasingly adopting 1:1 technology programs. However, little research exists on the efficacy of these programs across stakeholders and student groups. This resource examines current practices in 1:1 technology programs, UDL, and accessibility technologies in K-12 education and examines the implications for the implementation of UDL practices in K-12 and teacher education.
