We recognize that quality course design is instrumental toward supporting student success. When an online learning environment is well designed, everyone achieves more, learns more, and is more equitably represented.

We recognize that many faculty do not necessarily know how to carry out accessible design. This course is intended to provide conceptual and theoretical framework and robust concrete practical strategies to guide faculty and instructional designers in building course material on Canvas according to the best practices of Universal Design for Learning to improve the accessibility and quality of learning experience for everyone.

Eric offers some closing thoughts for the 2019 Digicon then cedes to Adria Battagalia. Adria was recruited to offer reflections on the UDLHE Digicon and share a little about what she’s seeing by way of trends here at the Digicon and in UDL in higher education in general. Her jovial nature and gift for synthesis made this a great way to end the conference. 

In this presentation, authors in Universal Access Through Inclusive Instructional Design: International Perspectives on UDL discuss key themes related to online learning that emerged in the development of the book that features 85 educators and inclusive design practices in 15 countries.

The goal of this presentation is to share a new tool used to plan, track and report on the implementation of UDL interventions in an online course. The UDL Planning & Tracking Tool (UDL-PTT) was designed to simplify the management and reporting process for UDL practitioners. 

In order for faculty to embrace using UDL, they need to be equipped with the skills, embrace the vision, and gain confidence in their ability to apply UDL to their courses. How can faculty development be designed to encourage faculty to move beyond UDL awareness?

Universal Design for Learning not only makes material accessible, but provides a framework for more inclusive and equitable learning experiences for students of all cultures.

This presentation demonstrates how Cabrini faculty purposefully crosswalked universal design for learning, culturally responsive teaching, and growth mindset into the design of teacher preparation coursework. It is our belief that through thoughtful design and implementation, we will effectively address the academic diversity in our School of Education program, and empower future teachers with best practices to use in their K-12 classrooms to serve the needs of diverse learners.
