Michael Medvinsky is an experienced teacher, author, questioner, and inquiry consultant who creates learning experiences where experiential learning encourages thinkers to look closely, think deeply and wonder incessantly. Medvinsky’s passion is fostering learning environments where thinking is valued, visible, and actively promoted as a part of the regular experience for all learners of all ages.
Medvinsky’s dedication to classroom culture and a learner-centered philosophy of education drew him to Harvard’s Project Zero in the early 2010s. Since then, he has been learning with and coaching international teams of teachers and administrators enrolled in the Creating Cultures of Thinking online course at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Medvinsky partnerships with classroom teachers have been featured in two of Dr. Ron Ritchhart’s books, Creating Cultures of Thinking and The Power of Making Thinking Visible. Medvinsky is a Lecturer in Education and teaches graduate courses in Education Leadership, Educational Technology, and Music Education at Oakland University.
As the Dean of Pedagogy and Innovation at University Liggett School and Lead Consultant for the University Liggett Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, Medvinsky leads campus initiatives as well as national and international workshops in Project Approach, Reggio Emilia Inspiration, documentation, Making Thinking Visible, inquiry mindset, teacher growth, and instructional technology integration. He strives to create a culture of thinking for teachers which often leads to a culture of thinking for students.
