In this session, see how a faculty development course will offer its participants different pathways for customizing learning, comprehending course content, and expressing knowledge. Multiple means of representation will be illustrated by sharing the course syllabus that takes three forms: a traditional text document, a captioned video, and an infographic.

We all love the PSYCH 101 professor who posts notes, slides, and an outline to Canvas. How do we convince more professors to do this? We started by introducing faculty to a “plus-one” approach to note-taking, during our annual department visits. Learn about our successes, failures, and next steps. 

What does it mean to have a UDL mindset? In this talk, Jodie shares her experience and ongoing journey developing a UDL mindset, and how it has helped change her approach to UDL work.

We introduced Universal Design for Learning to faculty attending a professional development workshop using short case activities to start each day. Attendees self-reported an increase in knowledge about UDL. In this event, participants interacted with the cases, provided feedback and were encouraged to customize and adapt the cases.

In an effort to promote online course accessibility that touches upon UDL, the Center for Distributed Learning at the University of Central Florida, developed a proactive captioning opportunity for completely online courses. This session will review the funding, the process, and the relative success of the first year of this captioning pilot.

The presentation describes the successes of a year-long faculty UDL learning group piloted at the University of Wyoming in 2018-19. Four participant researchers discuss the curriculum and process as well as initial qualitative research findings to assess the pilot project, suggest viable next steps, and discuss the applications of this model to other institutions. 

This session will explore online educational tools and strategies that foster connection and action between learners and content. Attendees are likely to "flip out" as they practice the ideas shared in the completion of the embedded session challenge.

The impact of UDL can reach far beyond college or K-12 classrooms. Two examples of UDL applications in the adult service system – one from South Africa; one from India – are presented and discussed in this session.
